PEG Companies [“PEG”] and The City of St. George encourage creative ideas and outside-the-box thinking that reflect the community’s rich history, unique culture, and/or its vibrant future. Applicants should keep in mind the unique location of the mural and remember that it will be viewed from both close-up and far-away distances.
The design will be developed within a collaborative process that includes the City and the property owners of the buildings upon which any mural or art project is applied. The goal of the project is to create a piece of public art for an outdoor environment that reflects the spirit of the City and to select a dedicated and qualified artist who demonstrates artistic excellence.
To find the right artist, PEG and The City of St. George have issued a request for proposal [RFP] and set an application deadline of February 29th, 2024. Proposals will be reviewed in depth as project leaders narrow them down to a shortlist of finalists. Artists will then be contacted and interviewed about their ideas, creative processes, proposed execution timelines, weatherproofing techniques, and more, before stakeholders will ultimately hire someone to complete the mural.
Submission details:
Applicants must submit all proposals digitally via the “Apply Now” button below. Applicants must complete the questionnaire, be as detailed as possible in their responses, and provide examples of relevant work experience along with their ideas for the St. George mural.
Application Requirements:
Each application must include:
Policies:
Artists may apply as individuals, or as a group of artists who may form a team to submit a collaborative proposal. The latter option may provide an opportunity for artists with less public art experience to partner with more established muralists and gain valuable experience and credentials, however, artists wishing to apply as a team should appoint and pronounce one (1) person to officiate as the main contact for the project. Delegation of project duties shall be listed in application along with a declaration for a single source of payment, as the group of artists should delegate how to divide their commissions/fees prior to an award.
Consideration of art mural that incorporates more than visual art is allowable. Hence, costs that pertain strictly to preparing a site specifically for the art or design work, such as slabs or pedestals, landscaping that’s necessary for the artwork or landscaping that is the artwork on the walls includes plantings or blends down into a mosaic tiled walkway with landscaping that is required for the work) are allowable.
Any artwork extending into the public paseo area must allow for wheelchair accessibility per governing regulations and not impair any access, overhead lighting or other structural or accessibility requirements. Artists will retain the ownership of design ideas submitted with the application until a selection has been made and a contract signed between the artist and PEG. At the time a contract is awarded, the ownership of the design and artwork produced will become the property of PEG.
Financial compensation will be made in accordance with an agreed-upon contract between the artist(s) and the City/PEG.
Artist fees for individuals directly involved in the project may be eligible. Other fees for non-participating artists, designers, architects, facilitators, or other consultants must be listed in the response to the proposal.
