Assistant Controller – Development Accounting

Job summary

The PEG Assistant Development Controller is responsible for working with a team of professionals to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting deliverables for all development projects within PEG’s investment strategies. The Assistant Development Controller will report to the Senior Controller and must be able to operate in a deadline-driven and collaborative environment. The Assistant Development Controller must be a team player, self-starter, well organized, detail oriented and have the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Verify cost trackers are reconciled monthly to the general ledger
  • Maintain financial statements in a multi-entity environment
  • Prepare financial reports in compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Review work paper support and documentation for financial reports
  • Assist with the design, implementation, and documentation of policies and procedures; and maintain related internal controls
  • Oversee the preparation and processing of monthly draw submissions to the lender for each respective project
  • Manage the relationship between the development accounting team and the development construction management teams
  • Assist with the coordination of outside third-party service provider relationships (Tax, Audit, Cost Segregation etc.)
  • Manage development accounting team workload and staffing requirements; interview, select, train, counsel, and evaluate staff to ensure effective support
  • Drive continual process improvement through the use and implementation of technology
  • Follow PEG policies and procedures and comply with state and federal laws
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, master’s degree preferred
  • CPA designation highly preferred
  • Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in accounting with experience in real estate development or construction accounting
  • YARDI Job Costing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, through team building, mentoring, and motivating professional staff
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures related to U.S. GAAP development accounting
  • Advanced MS Excel and strong written and verbal communication skills
